Course Modules

Anatomy & Intelligent Sequencing

We explore the anatomy most crucial to yoga. We make it comprehensive, engaging and fun so that you’ll love anatomy as much as we do! We then take this knowledge and apply it to learning how to create intelligent, accessible and effective yoga sequences that incorporate all of the elements of the yoga system.

Posture Labs & Accessible Yoga

‘‘It is through your body that you realize you are a spark of divinity.’’ BKS Iyengar

Using the wisdom of the most up to date anatomy research as well as the ancient wisdom of yoga, we will study the key yoga postures and how to adapt them to vast and diverse unique bodies and needs so that you can teach with confidence, compassion and understanding of the human form.

Using the key postures that are most often taught in group classes, we will explore what’s happening on both an anatomical and physiological level, and how we can modify these postures to support the vast array of students who will show up on the mat.

History & Comparative Philosophies

Yoga, although its roots are ancient, is a living tradition that is ever evolving according to time and place. Honouring this will journey through a comparative study of the main yogic scriptures and yogic lifestyle (Ayurveda) and teach you how to weave philosophy into your life and yoga classes in an accessible, practical way.

Exploring the Subtle Body System

‘We do not see things as they are, we see things as WE are’’ Anais Nin

We will journey through a practical exploration of the Chakras, Nadis & Koshas and learn about accessing the subtler layers of the body using Yoga Nidra, Restorative, Pranayama & Meditation techniques.

Vanessa Jaich (naturopathic nutritionist, yoga teacher, ‘Dip,CNM,mANP’) will take us through a workshop based on Ayurveda & its relationship to our gut health and hormones, and practical ways in which we can apply this knowledge to our teaching and our personal practice both on and off the mat.

Hands On Assists & Verbal Cues

"Yoga must not be practised to control the body, it must bring freedom to the body, all the freedom it needs." Vanda Scaravelli

Learn about the different ways in which we can support our students to find more space, ease & embodiment through our voices and mindful touch.

Yoga Of business: Ethics, Branding, & finding your unique voice

‘Yoga is free, the bills are not!’’ Nischilla Devi

We will explore the various facets of making a healthy and soul fulfilling career from teaching Yoga. There will be plenty of room for open discussion, and we will explore the ethics of business in relation to the yoga principles of the eight limbs.

We will then be joined by highly experienced marketing & branding consultant & yoga teacher Elin Jensen on ways of finding your unique voice and way of being in the world as a new teacher with lots of powerful tools in how to share your offerings with clarity and care.

Testimonials from our graduates

‘‘It took me a year to contact Amie at Union Yoga to enquire about yoga teacher training.  I was a 52 year old who had been practising yoga on and off for 25 years.  Amie immediately put my mind at rest, I had attended her classes throughout the previous 2 years, and encouraged me to sign up. The training was not what I expected at all: the complexity, the thoroughness, the biology, anatomy, history of yoga, pose breakdown and support were amazing and I couldn’t be anything but confident with David and Amie sharing all of their knowledge with us.

The training timetable and structure gave us time and space to thoroughly engage with the knowledge being shared. I felt I could progress at a pace that suited me by taking notes and re writing them after our “in house” weekend days.  There was a relaxed feel to how we documented our training, leaving us all to create differing bodies of written/typed work.  The course notes we were provided with were more of a volume of works and are referred to regularly now I am a teacher myself. One of the first group sessions covered “why are you here?”  I remember being passionate about wanting to share yoga and thought I could devise an introduction to share with people (a sort of not for profit). By the end of the nine months I’d decided I wanted my own studio and needed to teach regularly. This is the level of confidence the training gave me.’’

Claire, previous trainee at Union

‘‘Amie's role in the teaching team is both unique and key. She brings the same infectious enthusiasm and holds a very nurtured space for you to learn from. She is not only knowledgeable with a deep practice that is palpable but I also get the sense that she is also everyone's biggest cheerleader too. And that is because she is. This kind of container for learning makes all the difference for such a rich journey.’’

Jo, previous trainee at Union

‘‘This course is very informative and covers everything you need to know for a 200hr foundation course in teaching yoga. With amazing module manuals, full communication, wealth of knowledge and 18 yrs experience from the Course Director and all shared with a wonderful selection of fellow students who will remain Yoga friends for life. I feel accomplished and 100% ready to teach after graduating and I would recommend anyone to get in touch with Tammy Mittell to find out more information and enrol on this course, even if you wish to deepen your practice or also to be able to teach competently with mindfulness and authenticity’’.
